Lambeth bishops visit Manchester

Published: 14 July 2008

During their stay in Manchester, the bishops (also known as shepherds of their flocks) will visit Manchester’s historic Royal Exchange theatre, have lunch at Manchester Town Hall, visit Chetham’s School and have a walking tour of Manchester city centre.

They will take services across Greater Manchester and on Sunday 13 July were officially welcomed at a service in Manchester Cathedral.

Bishops (and their wives) visiting Manchester include:

The Most Revd Philip Frier (& Joy) - Melbourne, Australia (Archbishop)

Rt Revd Daniel Sadiq (& Naseen) - Karachi, Pakistan

Rt Revd Nathaniel Natwaktumba (& Vistorina) - Namibia, Southern Africa

Rt Revd Alexander Malik (& Shamim) - Lahore, Pakistan

Rt Revd Paul White (& Robyn) - Melbourne, Southern Region

Rt Revd Robert Fitzpatrick (& Beatrice) – Hawaii

Rt Revd Johannes Angela (& Elizabeth) – Bondo, Kenya

Rt Revd Joseph Kanuka – Machakos, Kenya

The Lambeth Conference takes place every 10 years at the invitation of the Archbishop of Canterbury. It is the one occasion when all bishops can meet for worship, study and conversation. Archbishops, diocesan, assistant and suffragan bishops are invited.

Also invited are bishops from other churches 'in communion' with the Anglican Communion, bishops from United Churches and a number of ecumenical guests.

Spouses of the 800+ bishops who attend are invited by the Archbishop of Canterbury's wife to a parallel, independent gathering: the Spouses' Conference.
