The Bishop of Manchester, The Rt Revd Nigel McCulloch, dedicated a new war memorial in Heywood with the names of four young men killed in conflicts since World War II.
The new memorial is made of marble and stands adjactent to the old war memorial, and blends in well. It was thought that the new Heywood memorial is the first in the country to be erected specially to commemerate those killed in post World War II conflicts. It contains space for future names.
The bishop led the service for a large number of people, representing families and friends of those who died, members of the local community, three senior officers from the services, and past and present members of HM Forces, Veterans Associations, and cadets.
