This office has a responsibility for making sure the central functions of the Diocese are run efficiently and organized to best serve our parishes and clergy.
The various departments of Church House report to the Diocesan Secretary with accountability maintained through Synodical governance.
The Diocesan Secretary, Martin Miller, sits on all key committees and Boards and functions as the Secretary to Synod.
The Governance Officer, Alex Peet, supports Diocesan Synod and Bishop’s Council. She organises the meetings, ensuring that agendas are drawn up and paperwork reaches all the participants in time. She records and circulates minutes, and ensures the smooth running of these functions.
Lisa Daniels, PA to the Diocesan Secretary, assists Martin in his role. She also takes a lead on in-house training programmes and organisational development. New staff appreciate the induction programme that Lisa has put together, and benefit from her training in using the core diocesan database.
Abbey Clephane-Wilson is our Safeguarding Officer. Abbey is responsible for safeguarding policy and training for clergy and parishes. She provides advice to the bishop and his leadership team, and manages safeguarding cases including liaison with relevant outside agencies. See the Safe Church section of the website.
This office also includes staff not based at Church House who provide support to senior clergy.
