Church & Society

Who we are and what we do

The Church and Society Department of the Diocese of Manchester exists to support the diocese in matters relating to mission, social responsibility and global affairs.

We promote the interaction between the church and local communities for their mutual benefit, support an effective response by the church to particular areas of social need and ensure that matters of social and ethical concern, diversity and relationships with other faiths are progressed and kept before the diocese.

We promote, at all levels of the diocese, a self-understanding within a global context, particularly as part of the Anglican Communion. This involves encouraging participation in the work of companion links and other inter-diocesan partnerships, building an understanding of global justice, and placing issues in world development before the diocese.
