Sponsored Walks

Over the last three years the congregation of All Saints, Newton Heath has been raising money for extensive restoration work by holding sponsored walks in their local park.

The Restoration Fund Committee, led by Ronnie Ogden its Chair, has organised events that have raised over £3200. These have been fun events, attended by all age groups. They felt that the walks were fairly easy to arrange and would like to share their idea with other parishes.

They give the following points to help:

  • Check with the local parks officer for a suitable venue.
  • There may be forms to fill in for risk assessment and you will need a copy of your third party insurance.
  • Walk only on proper paths.
  • Borrow a road measuring wheel to verify distance.
  • Plan the runs/walks outside summer months in Spring or Autumn.

Arrange:

  • First Aid
  • Toilets
  • Bottled water
  • A gazebo, table and chairs
  • Hot water in thermos flasks for drinks
  • Laminated direction signs fixed to wooden sticks placed on the outside of the path at corners.

The walks take place on a Saturday morning, commencing at 10am and are usually over by 1pm, plus setting up time of 30 minutes.
