There are several sources of grant aid available to parishes that enable us to provide a coordinated response to the development of parish mission and ministry across the diocese.
A grants panel meets quarterly to assess all requests for financial help. The panel tries to make sure there is a fair distribution of resources across the diocese. This may mean that preference is given to parishes that have not received funding before.
For diocesan grants there is an expectation that parishes applying have paid their share in full.
Parishes are advised to allow at least six months for their main applications to be written, accepted and approved. Forward planning is therefore crucial and work should be part of a well-formulated parish strategy.

There is a fast track process for small grants under £1000. Applications should be sent to the Church and Society Department by the last day of each month.
Small Parish Mission Fund (SPMF) grants of up to £500 can be awarded to parishes carrying out new work to respond to the current economic climate by offering help and support to people who are unemployed or who are working with issues around debt.
Applications for these grants are considered on a monthly basis. Forms are available in the Grants Handbook.
Small Grants of £5000 are available from the Church Urban Fund for projects costing up to £15,000. Eligible parishes will be in the top 10% on the Index of Multiple Deprivation, or have an area within this band.
