World Development

International development issues are dealt with by the World Mission Officer working with the World Development Task Group. Its role is to make recommendations on specific matters relating to international development issues, fairtrade, international debt and aid, to the Church and Society Committee. 

 

It seeks

  • To promote international justice principles and action throughout the Diocese of Manchester.
  • To promote the fairtrade agenda by 
    • Maintaining fairtrade parishes, 
    • Increasing the number of parishes committed to fairtrade principles 
    • Developing, publicising and disseminating a range of resources designed to keep trade justice and fairtrade issues 'alive' in parishes 
    • Encouraging and supporting local trade justice and fairtrade events 
    • Devising strategies to increase the numbers of CofE schools working towards fairtrade status.
  • To maintain an awareness of national policies relating to international debt
  • To maintain an awareness of national policies relating to development aid
  • To promote diocesan involvement in campaigning initiatives on trade justice, international debt, development aid and international human rights issues.
  • To develop and maintain links with development agencies and other relevant groups (locally and nationally).
  • To create and maintain an effective diocesan system for communicating trade justice and fairtrade issues
  • To raise awareness of environmental sustainability as a key principle of international justice.
