Reader training and ordination training in the diocese is now through the new regional training partnership of which the diocese is an active partner.More details about the course can be found at www.snwtp.org.

There are six different weeknight teaching centres, the most local being in Bury, Luther King House (Rusholme) and Wigan. Residential weekends are held for ordinands six times a year. Reader students do not attend the residentials but instead attend Study Saturdays at Luther King House.

The course has 12 modules, each of 20 credits, and leads to a Foundation Degree validated either by Liverpool Hope University or by the University of Chester.

Ordinands complete the degree over three years, Readers are generally licensed after three years, but complete the final modules of the degree after licensing as part of their ongoing training.

The diocese provides a Director of Studies and a pastoral tutor for each student with whom they have regular meetings.

Ministry training is an ongoing, life-long endeavour, and the diocese runs a programme for new curates through the extent of their curacy, and then a programme for First Incumbents for those who go on to become vicars. Likewise, new Readers continue training and in doing so complete the Foundation Degree programme.

Training is also provided for, and support given to, incumbents who act as training ministers whether for those in the years prior to licensing/ordination or in the initial years of authorised/ordained ministry.
