Champion's Challenge

Holiday Club Programme

This photocopiable resource provides material for a five-day holiday programme, aimed at 5-11-year-olds. It uses Luke’s gospel to look at key features of Jesus’s ministry and uses sports terminology as a focus for each of the five days: ‘trainer’, ‘physio’, ‘teammate’, ‘substitute’, and ‘winner’. There are also ideas for two family services – ‘selector’ to start the club and ‘champion’ to end it. The usual holiday club mix of games, songs, prayer, craft, Bible reading and drama is provided. A 48-page booklet Matchday Programme is available, including key passages from Luke’s gospel, puzzles and material for small groups. A detailed guide for preparing the programme, working with a team, and good working practices with children is provided.

My Holy Communion book

The main advantage of this addition to the range of ‘children’s communion books’ now available is that although it is small (11cm x 15cm) it is hard-back, and therefore durable. Following the pattern of other similar resources, this book goes through the standard Common Worship communion service, giving children all the texts they need in order to join in the. Texts are presented in an attractive way, on colour illustrated pages, and there is additional commentary to make clear to children what is going on at each part of the service.

Belcher Bridget

The story of a girl who is a champion belcher is told in four-line rhyming verses. Each page contains a small amount of text and a bright illustration. Bridget treasures an old piece of toast that started her on her belching career, and when it is lost she is distraught until she finds it. At the end of the book is the text of the parable of the lost coin and three activities to explore the theme of ‘lost and found’ in the context of God’s feelings for his people.
