Buzzing in Benchill

Published: 02 June 2010

At the recent Archdeacon’s Visitation, Mark Ashcroft said: “When Christians meet there should be a real buzz because God is with us.”

St Luke, Benchill is certainly buzzing - full of life-giving opportunities for all ages. Our Mission Statement is “Fun, Food and Fellowship”. We have seen substantial growth, mainly through fun and faith, food and faith and a growing sense of confidence in God being with us in our fellowship.

The Lunch Club for over 60s has more than 30 members. They have established a new informal service called ‘Wednesday Welcome’, and it has been a buzz to see spiritual and numerical growth through this creative exploration of faith, through art, poetry, music, as well as studies of how to pray using the Psalms and a skip through John’s Gospel.

The Church is full of fun on Saturday mornings as ‘Wyth-It-Youth-Church’ meets to make a joyful noise. Young people have learned about faith through a sign language choir, playing instruments, creating puppet sermons and sharing brunch together.

Wyth-It now enhances our monthly All Age service with its energetic and thought-provoking input. They are working towards their first annual prizegiving service which will include a performance of U2’s, ‘Magnificent’ and ‘What if God was one of us?’.

That’s more than a buzz, it’s a blast!
