Leading your Church into Growth is a training programme which takes the mystique out of growth and makes it ‘normal’ and do-able.
"The most valuable training we’ve ever done", is a typical comment from some of the 70 churches represented on the course.
LYCiG is a four-day residential course for lay and ordained leaders. Now in its thirteenth year, the course was pioneered by Robin Gamble and others, and is led by a team drawn from many different backgrounds, traditions, and ministry contexts. All are practitioners who can speak from personal experience of leading churches into growth.
The course takes the form of an open seminar with interactive talks, practical exercises, and personal reflection, with the opportunity for consultancy on the churches represented on the course.
The bishops particularly recommend that clergy attend the course within a year of taking on a new post, especially if they have not done so before – or better still, take a small team.
The course costs £225 per person full board (2008 price). In addition to the usual grants and allowances for clergy and lay people, the diocese can help to fund up to half the cost for each lay or ordained person taking part.

"I’ve been to many conferences over the years, but never before to one where there were things worth taking away from every session. Of course, with anything this good there’s that ‘reality moment’ when you get home and wonder if any of it will actually work for you in your context; but the leaders’ testimonies, which told of how they faced joys and challenges and lived what they now teach, provide encouragement to try it and see. In other words, LYCIG is as valuable for the experiences shared and contacts made as for the content taught. I’d recommend it to anybody."
Revd Lee Longden, Vicar of Christ Church, Ashton under Lyne
"It is the only course in living memory in which I have enjoyed learnt, experienced and come home charged and ready to go, I would recommend this course to everyone, I have returned to my parish refreshed and full of ideas."
Revd Shaun O’Rourke, Priest in Charge of St Mary’s, Heaton Reddish
