Parish Grants

The diocese administers a number of grants that are available to parishes in need. Full details, application forms and deadlines for applications are available in the Grants Handbook. Click here for the Grants section.

In 2008 the Church & Society Department supported parishes by:

  • Providing advice and support to secure nearly £1.5m in grants and loans and an additional £1.4m in grant offers from English Heritage.
  • Advising parishes on raising match funding of £700k.
  • Helping bid successfully for £500,000 of additional funding to support mission in new housing development areas.
  • Preparing detailed analyses and briefings on Indices of Deprivation to inform action on areas/issues across the diocese.

Small Parish Mission Fund grants

The Diocesan Grants Panel has agreed that Small Parish Mission Fund (SPMF) grants of up to £500 can be awarded to parishes carrying out new work to respond to the current economic climate by offering help and support to people who are unemployed or who are working with issues around debt.

Applications for these grants are considered on a monthly basis. Forms are available in the Grants Handbook.

Mustard Seed grants

Small Grants of £5000 are available from the Church Urban Fund for projects costing up to £15,000. Eligible parishes will be in the top 10% on the Index of Multiple Deprivation, or have an area within this band.
