A New Stewardship Year

Published: 01 January 2012

The start of another calendar year is a significant time in the life of any church. Thoughts are focused on fulfilling plans for the coming 12 months, or perhaps launching a project that has been developed in the preceding months.

Perhaps 2012 is the right year for your church to run specific stewardship activity. A number of churches have already made plans to have a ‘Good Enough For God’ jigsaw campaign, and if this has not already been considered by your PCC, there’s still an opportunity to plan one into your church calendar for this year. It’s been a particular encouragement to have as much positive feedback as we’ve had from churches that undertook the campaign in 2011 – increases in financial and time commitments have abounded, which has given a real boost all round.

This could be the year when a ‘stewardship season’ is emphasised, maybe through a series of messages or home group studies and discussions, covering the many different aspects of stewardship. Maybe it could be a good year to run one of the many excellent ‘money education’ programmes that are available through various Christian organisations, which provide invaluable ‘navigation’ skills for the growing number of those unfamiliar with personal budgeting, but all too familiar with debts and money problems.

Or it could be the year when individuals undertake an examination of their own personal stewardship – starting to tithe, for example, or embarking on some form of proportional giving for the first time, or committing their time to a particular project or activity.

However you are embracing stewardship, individually or corporately, remember that there are a number of resources available at Church House to help you.
