A quick guide to the Church of England
The Church of England is the established church. This means, in England, residents have a right to turn to the church for its help. That is why we take over 6000 funerals, 1500 weddings and 5,500 christenings (baptisms) every year. Over 2.5 million people pass through our church buildings every year.
In addition to that we look after the education of over 52,000 children in our 194 schools.
We have 36,000 registered members. We look after over 1,000 properties. We contribute millions to the local economy in both voluntary work and through our economic activity.
We have over 700 people (ministers) who can take church services.
All of the above is only for the Diocese of Manchester. The Church of England has a further 42 Dioceses.
We are a significant economic and social force.
The Diocese of Manchester is the Church of England in Bolton, Bury, Leigh, Manchester, Oldham, Rochdale, Rossendale, Salford, Stockport, Tameside and Trafford.
