Trinity CE High School's assemblies focused on the ‘One Million Hours of Prayer for Manchester’ initiative.
The vision is for one million hours of prayer to cover Greater Manchester and transform it, with crime reducing and churches growing. Existing prayer groups and events have been encouraged to join in this special effort, praying as a community to make changes for the better happen in Manchester. To succeed in time for the Manchester event, 30,000 people worldwide will need to commit 20 minutes of prayer a day, for 100 days from 1 May to 9 August 2009.
Students were all asked to pray for 1 minute for Manchester, thereby contributing 20 hours of prayer for the initiative and our city.
They were also asked to consider how they would dedicate one million hours of their time to make Manchester a better place to live. To put this into context, they watched a presentation showing that premiership footballers play 57 hours of football matches a year, Coronation Street addicts watch 130 hours of episodes a year and Trinity students spend 950 hours a year in lessons.
