Congratulations to Revd Carol McCabe from St Katharine’s, Blackrod, who was awarded Blackrod Council’s Community Award for her work with children and young people.
The award recognises Carol’s work in providing various after-school clubs, Sunday School, youth clubs and being chaplain to Blackrod Primary School where she runs collective worship and communion services for children and parents.
Carol says, “Over the past few years the world of the child has changed almost beyond recognition. ‘The family’ has changed and there are new pressures on family life and education. Children are faced with some difficult choices. In all this, I take children seriously, with respect, compassion and empathy.
“Our PCC, youth team and congregation join me in this. Over 20 leaders help in the task of spiritual development for our young ones. We start by understanding the lives and situations children face and we meet them where they are.
“I am just part of this. Through Christ, the events put on for children have foundation. Through the Holy Spirit’s prompting we prune and develop, and we listen and learn. In every aspect of Christian ministry, only one thing matters: remaining in the vine. Then fruit will be produced.”
