Cathedral choir launches CD

25 June 2009

Manchester Cathedral Choir will launch its new CD with a performance at Harvey Nichols on Tuesday 30 June at 6.15pm.

Early dinner guests at Harvey Nichols are in for a treat when Manchester Cathedral Choir launches their new CD in the restaurant of the up-market store.

There will be an unusual mix of the traditional and modern as the robed choir processes from the cathedral, after Evensong (led by the verger), to the restaurant on the second floor of the glitzy Harvey Nichols store.

The Choir will perform two songs from the CD followed by a short speech from the Dean and the General Manager of Harvey Nichols. Diners will then be able to listen to some excerpts from the CD which features music by Sir Hubert Parry, one of the most masterful composers of choral music of the Victorian and Edwardian eras.

The Dean of Manchester Cathedral said; “I am delighted to launch the new CD in such a wonderful space as the Harvey Nichols restaurant. The store is one of our neighbours and launching the CD here is a sign of how much we appreciate the economic contribution to the commercial sector that major retailers make to this great city.”

Iain Mackenzie, General Manager of Harvey Nichols said; “This must be the first time a Cathedral choir has launched a music CD in a store such as ours. To have this unique choir performing its music to our restaurant customers is very special. It will be an occasion to remember.”

Manchester Cathedral choir is unique amongst English Cathedrals as its main choir has both men and women singing together. Christopher Stokes, Musical Director of the Cathedral Choir, said; “ I am very proud of these recordings and the quality of the singing. The choir has a sound which is a credit to the City and county. I hope people will enjoy our choice of music.”
