It was with great excitement and in trepidation that nine young people from the Diocese of Manchester, along with their leaders, headed off to Tampere, Finland to be part of a Confirmation Camp in the beautiful setting of Pattiniemi. This opportunity is part of an ongoing, fruitful relationship between the Diocese of Manchester and the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Finland in Tampere, and is the third time that a group has been invited to Tampere.
This fantastic opportunity gave our young people the chance to experience new surroundings, new cultures and new friendships. Our days were full to the brim with teaching, sauna, meditation, discussion, eating (five meals a day!), games, entertainment and worship, with every experience giving the group the opportunity to learn more about the Finnish culture, themselves, each other and their relationship with God.
It was a brilliant place to prepare for confirmation and an adventure that none of the group will ever forget. The group is very grateful for the generosity, friendship and hospitality of our Finnish friends in Tampere.
Some of the young people who were part of this Confirmation Camp in Pattiniemi will be confirmed this weekend at St Matthew’s, Chadderton, by the Bishop of Middleton.
