The Rt Revd Nigel McCullogh, Lord Bishop of Manchester, asked a supplementary question during Lord Roberts's question on unemployment on Tuesday 26 January.
The Bishop highlighted issues of unemployment in the north west and asked the Minister if the figures for the north west remained disproportionately high. The minister assured Bishop Nigel that he would write to him with a more specific answer but the Government had seen a decrease in unemployment across the country.
The Lord Bishop of Manchester said: My Lords, during the past half century the north-west had some particularly high levels of unemployment. Given that the Manchester city region is currently the strongest economic engine outside London, is that reflected in the regional breakdown of the current figures, or does employment in the north-west remain disproportionately high?
