The Bishop of Middleton visited a homeless charity yesterday and gave away a special Christmas treat with a difference.
Families attending the Mustard Tree in Ancoats each received a pack of Fairtrade chocolate decorations to hang on their Christmas trees. The decorations are made by Manchester’s own Meaningful Chocolate Company who also make The Real Easter Egg, the UK’s only Easter egg to explain the meaning of Easter on the box.
The Meaningful Chocolate Tree Decorations are the UK’s first ever set of Fairtrade charity tree decorations to carry images of the characters of the Nativity.
In addition, 15 pence from every set of tree decorations sold will be donated to Traidcraft Exchange, a development charity which supports small-scale farmers and producers. The Meaningful Chocolate Company has already raised £60,000 for charitable projects through its sales of chocolate this year.
The Rt Revd Mark Davies said: “I’m delighted to be visiting The Mustard Tree this week. We all know that the pressures on families around Christmas time are often significant, so it will be a great pleasure to give this small gift with a copy of the Christmas story.”
