Manchester diocesan syllabus for RE provides advice to aided schools. Voluntary controlled and community schools must follow their local authority’s syllabus but are welcome to use or adapt material on this site if it is appropriate.
The principal aim of religious education in Manchester diocesan church schools is to affirm, encourage and challenge pupils on their spiritual journey.
The syllabus gives general guidance on the legal situation, role of governors, the aim and proportions of time to devote to each religion.
Advice is given on teaching Christianity and other world faiths and on religious education’s links with other curriculum areas.
The syllabus contains level descriptors, derived from QCA guidance, to enable teachers to plan suitable activities for pupils and help both teachers and pupils assess standards of work.
