Governors

Governor Support Officers

The Education Department has two governor support staff. They are Will Leeson, who is Schools Governance Advisor, and Revd Chris Shelley, who is Governor Support Officer (part time).

These two staff deal with all aspects of support for church school governing bodies through advice, consultancy and training courses. For advice on admissions or instruments of government contact Chris Shelley. For personnel issues contact Will Leeson. For other enquiries please contact either individual.

Our church schools often need more people to consider becoming a school governor to work with school staff to help provide a good education for all pupils.

Could it be for you?

Revd Chris Shelley is keen to attract more volunteers to the role of Foundation Governor. If you think you would like to take on this very worthwhile role, please contact Chris who will be happy to talk to you. Potential governors must be aged 18 or over. You can contact him on 0161 828 1407.

New Website for Governors

www.great-governance.org.uk
This new resource for governors and for those considering becoming governors is the result of cooperation between most of the Greater Manchester Authorities together with Manchester Diocese.

Why the new site?

We know it can sometimes be a challenge to find quickly what you need to support you in your role on the governing body. Once found, resources need to be as useful and practical as possible, with a clear distinction of your strategic role. We have brought together a range of information that we hope you find helpful.

What’s in it for me?

If you want to bust the jargon, ask the right questions, know what the governing body should be doing and when, or plan your own development, there is something here for you. If you are a new governor, or are thinking about becoming a governor, you will find our sections for the ‘New Governor’ and ‘Governance Tools’ a good place to start. If you have been a governor for some time, you will find the resources in our sections, ‘Looking to improve’ and ‘Learn more’ useful aids.

We hope that you will use the website as an information and learning resource that will help you to assist and challenge your school. Please don’t forget to visit our Community Topic section and let us know what you think and help us to develop this site further.
