SUMMARY:Being a Treasurer: The Basics

This training is designed to equip new and old treasurers with the core knowledge needed to carry out their role.During the day we will look at the treasurer as trustee\, bookkeeper\, planner\, tax optimiser and compliance officer. \n\n\n\nThis course is structured around these five key areas: \n\n\n\n\nTreasurer as Trustee – this section outlines the legal framework for charities and the duties of charity trustees\, of whom the Treasurer may be one.\n\n\n\nTreasurer as Bookkeeper – this section addresses day-to-day management of church finances and accounting\, exploring the systems a church may have in place for routine operations and the basic principles of charity accounting.\n\n\n\nTreasurer as Planner – this section is primarily about budgeting but also addresses some concepts of risk management.\n\n\n\nTreasurer as Tax Optimiser – this section covers what charities need to know to take advantage of Gift Aid and GASDS\, as well as a few points about VAT.\n\n\n\nTreasurer as Compliance Officer – this section covers the requirements on charities for preparation of their year-end documents and external scrutiny.\n\n\n\n\nRecent changes in SORP 2026 and the implications for parishes will also be covered. \n\n\n\nThe training will be delivered by the Association of Church Accountants and Treasurers (ACAT)\, and staff from the Diocese of Manchester Finance Team will also be present to answer any questions relating to our local procedures. \n\n\n\nIf you are not already aware of the diocese’s block membership with ACAT this will be covered as well. SUMMARY:Webinar for Curates - Talking Money 2026
DESCRIPTION:The National Giving Team is providing a selection of webinars to support churches and dioceses in improving giving and generosity. \n\n\n\nThis 60-minute training session\, aimed at new curates\, is a chance to explore the topics of money\, budgeting\, giving and generosity. These are really important elements of parish life\, but many clergy don’t have much training on them before starting their ministry. \n\n\n\nIn plenary sessions and small group discussions\, we will create a space for you to consider your own experiences of money\, how money works in the CofE\, and within parishes. At the end\, we’ll equip you with a range of resources about giving\, generosity and fundraising that can help as you begin your curacy. The session will be informal and confidential to give participants a relaxed opportunity to think about an area of church life that can be challenging. \n\n\n\nThe session is run by Regional Giving Advisors within the National Giving Team. They equip dioceses and parishes with the tools and knowledge to create the best environment for giving and generosity in their churches. \n\n\n\nPlease register in advance for this webinar: \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRegister here \n\n\n\n\n\nAfter registering\, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the webinar. \n\n\n\nThis session will not be recorded. Slides will be circulated to attendees.
