SUMMARY:Manchester and Salford Ecumenical Whit Walk
DESCRIPTION:A tradition that began over 200 years ago\, the Whit Walk processions were first held in 1801 and celebrate the birthday of the Church\, bringing together Christians from across the region in a joyful expression of faith and community. Each year\, crowds line the streets of Manchester City Centre to support the churches as they take part in this much‑loved event. \n\n\n\nWe are delighted to announce that the Revd Canon Kate Bottley will be the preacher for this year’s walk. Kate is well known as an Anglican priest\, journalist\, and radio presenter\, and will join us for the Act of Worship in St Peter’s Square\, one of the highlights of the procession through the streets of Manchester. \n\n\n\nEveryone is invited to join us on Monday\, 25th May (Bank Holiday) for this year’s Whit Walk. Churches and brass bands will take part in this joyful procession of faith and fellowship\, and we would love for your parish to take part. \n\n\n\nThe closing date to register for the walk is Friday\, 10th April. This year\, the fees are as follows: \n\n\n\n\nParish/Benefice: £75 (same as last year)\n\n\n\nMission Community: £150 (new category)\n\n\n\n\nIf you are interested and would like a registration form\, please email Revd Caroline Hewitt at: revd.caroline.hewitt@gmail.com \n\n\n\nTo help mark the occasion and reflect on the meaning and heritage of the Whit Walks\, we’ve created a special film celebrating this enduring tradition. We invite you to watch\, reflect\, and share in the spirit of this remarkable event. \n\n\n\n \n\n \n\n \n \n \n Play Video\n \n \n \n\n \n\n \n \n\n \n\n\nDonate to the Whit Walks\n\n\n\nThe Whit Walks take place each year thanks to the generous support of the public.
