Final day in Heaton and Bury
04 June 2017 IN: Thy Kingdom Come
The people of Ramsbottom joined Bishop Mark Ashcroft for prayers in St Andrew’s Church, Ramsbottom. From there the bishop went on to visit various shops in Ramsbottom, chatting with people along the way. Bishop Mark and Archdeacon David Bailey then boarded the steam train to Bury.
A warm welcome at Bury Train Station was followed by a walkabout in the bustling atmosphere of Bury Market. The Bishop of Bolton was accompanied by Revd Steve Openshaw, Revd Rhiannon Jones, and Revd Simon Cook. Many warm conversations about faith and prayer took place as he engaged with shoppers and stall holders.
Prayers at Bury Parish church were spoken before a short tram journey to Heaton Park. Along with a group of enthusiastic locals, Bishop Mark walked through Heaton Park, praying and speaking to people as he felt moved to do so. Bishop Mark explained: “We had moving conversations about the things that were happening in people’s lives as we walked through the park.”
At St Margaret’s Prestwich heartfelt prayers were poured out for the local community, for businesses and for individuals. Bishop Mark concluded: “We’ve prayed for the spirit of God to move in this deanery, bringing the love of God and the knowledge of Jesus to the people in this area. It’s been a great day.”
