Church-led jobs fair returns to Bacup

The Rossendale Jobs Fair returns for the sixth year running to the Methodist Church in Bacup on Thursday 4 April, offering amazing opportunities to connect people looking for a new job, a change in career or a local apprenticeship with local employers.

Organised by the MP for Rossendale and Darwen, Jake Berry, The Revd David Brae from Christ Church, Bacup, and in partnership with the Rawtenstall Jobs Centre, the Jobs Fair attracts about 350 people every year.

The fair is attended by nearly 40 local businesses, and offers workshops centred around CV and interview preparation, digital online help and self-employment.

Scores of local employers and colleges will have a stand at the event, knowing that it’s a great place to snap up local talent. They include the RAF, Capita, Rossendale Borough Council, B&E Boys, Cruise Academy, Calico Homes, Burnley FC, and GS Social Care.

The Revd David Brae said, “The Church should always be at the forefront of making a positive difference in the life of its community. The Jobs Fair is our way of telling the people that God loves them and wants the very best for them. The Church is helping to provide a practical platform where people can find life-enhancing job or educational opportunities.”

The Rt Hon Jake Berry MP said "Unemployment is at a record low across Rossendale & Darwen, but it's important that we continue to host these kind of events to help those still looking to get into work or education. The Rossendale Jobs Fair is all about helping people take that exciting next step in their lives and help them improve their skills."

A spokesperson for the civil service, who attended last year’s fair for the first time to promote its apprenticeship schemes, said, “There’re so many people from the local area who have come and there’s a great diversity in terms of age and background. It’s great that the fair has offered free hair cuts and suits to people who don’t have a lot of money to increase their chance of presenting well at interview. We’ll definitely be back next year with a bigger stand.”

The Jobs Fair takes place on Thursday 4 April from 10am to 4pm at Bacup Central, Methodist Church, Bacup, Lancs OL13 8AB.
