The Diocesan Board of Education hosted its Annual Schools Conference at Bolton Wanderers Football Club yesterday, focused on the vital topic of ‘Creation, Climate and Curriculum’.Over 200 school leaders, chairs of governors and clergy gathered to be encouraged, inspired and equipped by expert speakers and guest contributors. Archdeacon Karen Lund presided over the Eucharist before Tearfund’s Global Advocacy and Influencing Director, Dr Ruth Valerio, gave the keynote address. Presentations from Eco Schools and Dr Sam Johnson from the Diocese of Blackburn grounded the day with practical insight and ideas. The wider Eco work of the diocese was highlighted by our Diocesan Environment Officers, Revd Grace Thomas and Revd Clive Hamilton. Officers from the Board of Education shared resources and plans for the creation of a Carbon Reduction Grant Fund to enable all 191 diocesan school buildings to be surveyed so that they can produce heat decarbonisation plans. The highlight of the day for most people was the excellent and uplifting presentation from children in the Eco Group at Canon Burrows CE Primary School. |
