Welcome to Manchester
The Diocese of Manchester is a great place to live, work and minister. Thank you for considering whether God is calling you to work here with us. You are invited to find out more about the opportunities that exist to work here in lay and ordained ministry, and to join us in bringing the hope and love found in Jesus Christ to the north of England’s principal conurbation.
An introduction to the diocese
Manchester is a vibrant diocese of opportunity and creativity. Its rich mixture of church traditions and ethnicity makes it a wonderful environment to engage in Gospel ministry.
The diocesan vision is ‘to be a worshipping, growing and transforming Christian presence at the heart of every community’. Supporting this vision are three mission goals:
Growing: growing new disciples in missionary church communities which are younger, more diverse, active and spiritually engaged.
Nurturing: increasing vocations, nurturing new and existing disciples, increasing financial giving.
Serving: present for all, speaking and acting prophetically for justice, supporting pastorally especially the vulnerable, deprived and excluded.
Church for a different world
We live in a rapidly changing world. The cultural context is changing, with many faith groups represented in Manchester and an increasing number of people identifying as having no faith. Those in the 18-24 year age range are least represented in our churches, and those from areas of high deprivation also are less well represented. So there are great challenges, but also great missional opportunities.
The Diocese of Manchester has set about these challenges with a desire to be Church for a different world, both reacting to the changing circumstances and being an agent of transformation in the world today. Take a look at our vacancies and see if you can be part of Church for a different world.
