On Sunday, 30th November 2025, we gathered at Manchester Cathedral to celebrate a significant milestone in Bishop David’s ministry: the 25th anniversary of his consecration as a bishop.

The occasion was marked by a Eucharist presided over by Bishop David in the place where he was installed as Bishop of Manchester in 2014. The service drew together colleagues, friends, and members of the diocesan family from across the years of Bishop David’s ministry in worship during a beautiful Sung Eucharist on the first Sunday of Advent.

We were delighted to be joined by The Rt Revd Jack Nicholls, who preached at Bishop David’s consecration at St Paul’s Cathedral in 2000. He returned on this special occasion to deliver the sermon encouraging those gathered to “Introduce People to Jesus”.

The service included contributions from many who have shared in Bishop David’s ministry including his chaplains, past and present. The Revd Canon Dr Chris Bracegirdle (below left) read a lesson, while The Revd Canon Dr Ian Jorsyz (centre) led the prayers alongside Bishop David’s current senior chaplain, The Revd Canon Anne Edwards.

The first reading from the book of Isaiah, was read by the Revd Sue Walker.

At the conclusion of the service, Dean Rogers Govender presented Bishop David with a gift of whiskey as a token of appreciation from the Cathedral Chapter. This was followed generous hospitality in true northern style – pies and a celebration cake.

Thank you to everyone who joined us to celebrate Bishop David’s 25 years of faithful and dedicated service in episcopal ministry.
