Celebrating South Asian Heritage Month
The month of July is dedicated to commemorating, celebrating, and educating on the rich history, culture and contributions of people from South Asia.
The month of July is dedicated to commemorating, celebrating, and educating on the rich history, culture and contributions of the eight countries that make up South Asia.
During July, as a church, we give thanks and acknowledge the many opportunities to explore the impact people from South Asia have had through food, clothing, language, music, enterprise, and community.
During South Asian Heritage Month, let’s give thanks for the gifts, faith, leadership and cultural wisdom that South Asian communities bring to our diocese and beyond.
We hope that these resources support you in marking South Asian Heritage Month in your parish, chaplaincy or school.

As we celebrate South Asian Heritage Month, one of our sisters in Christ shares why her South Asian heritage is such an important part of her faith and discipleship.
“As someone of South Asian heritage, my faith has been deeply shaped by values such as family, hospitality, prayer, service, and caring for others. These values have taught me that faith is not only expressed in worship but also lived out through everyday relationships, acts of kindness, and service within our communities.
“South Asian communities bring so much to the life of the Church, including warmth, resilience, generosity, and a strong sense of belonging. In diverse congregations, I believe a genuine community is built when we take time to listen to one another, learn from different experiences, and develop meaningful relationships that go beyond cultural differences.
“Recognising and celebrating the rich diversity within South Asian communities helps to strengthen the Church and reflects the beauty of God’s family. When we value one another’s stories, traditions, and contributions, we create a more inclusive and welcoming community where everyone can flourish.
“This month reminds us that our diversity is a gift from God and that, together, we more fully reflect the richness and beauty of His Kingdom.”
