Freshers, Faith and Matchboxes

Jamie Mackenzie, previously Local Ministry Officer has recently taken up the role of Lead Anglican Chaplain for Manchester Universities. He has started just in time to welcome new students to the city centre and has shared this update:

“This week has been my first experience of Freshers’ Welcome Week and it has been incredibly busy with thousands of students passing through. The Chaplaincy Team had a table at the main welcome fair and over the past few days we have had some great conversations with both local students and those that have come to Manchester from all over the world.

“Along with the usual leaflets, treats and goodies we gave away over 300 mini Jesus figures (inspired by recent lay conference goodie bags), with Jesus in a matchbox proving particularly popular! We also invited students to share any prayer requests they may have for the start of the term and got well over 180 responses.

Jamie added, “Please continue to pray for me as I establish new relationships across the universities and seek to link students and staff into our local churches.”

We’re sure that Jamie and the Chaplaincy Team will continue to be a blessing to both students and staff across Manchester’s universities, and we look forward to sharing more of his work in the future.
