Honorary Canons Installed at Manchester Cathedral
On Sunday, eight clergy and laity were installed as Honorary, Lay, Ecumenical, and Distinguished Canons of Manchester Cathedral.
On Sunday, eight clergy and laity were honoured for their service to the diocese and formally installed as Honorary, Lay, Ecumenical, and Distinguished Canons of Manchester Cathedral. They are now members of the Greater Chapter, a body that meets to discuss and advise on matters related to the Cathedral’s life and mission.
The canons were collated by the Bishop of Manchester, the Right Reverend Prof David Walker, and were installed by the Dean, the Very Reverend Rogers Govender. The preacher at the service was Revd Canon Dr Christian Selvaratnam.

Honorary Canons
The Reverend Canon Simon Cook
Simon has served the Diocese with imagination and distinction as a Parish Priest, Borough Dean, full time Area Dean and Acting Archdeacon, as well as serving on Diocesan Synod.
The Reverend Canon Marcia Wall
As well as her roles in both parish and Cathedral, Marcia has humbly served the Diocese and wider Church of England on many committees, including General Synod, former Bishop’s Advisor for Women’s Ministry and the Interfaith Task Group
The Reverend Canon Dr Kim Wasey
Kim serves as President of LKC and Principal of Open College, working supportively and collaboratively. She teaches in the areas of pastoral and practical theology with a particular interest in research methodologies and Chaplaincy Studies.
The Reverend Canon Vincent Whitworth
Vincent currently serves as an Incumbent in Bolton as well as on General Synod.
He formerly served as an Area Dean, Archdeaconry Reader Chaplain.
Lay Canon
Canon Abby Ogier
Abby is a Reader who serves in Wythenshawe, as well as being a member of General Synod. She also works as Deputy Head of Chaplaincy at MHA (Methodist Homes)
Distinguished Canons
The Reverend Canon Guy Hewitt
Guy, an Anglican priest and former Barbados High Commissioner to the UK, became the first Racial Justice Director of the Church of England has worked tirelessly for racial justice and a participatory, inclusive process of restoration.
The Reverend Canon Dr Christian Selvaratnam
Christian Dean of Church Planting and founder of the Centre for Church Planting at St Hild College. Before this, he worked at Alpha International and as the Ordained Leader at a church plant in York.
Ecumenical Canon
The Reverend Canon lan Rutherford
lan has a national role within The Methodist Church in Homelessness and Housing and in Zero Carbon, and the Methodist City Centre Network. He is also the Faith Sector Lead on Homelessness and Housing for Mayor Andy Burnham and Chair of the Greater Manchester Food Security Network.
