King’s Kitchen, based at Christ Church in Chadderton, is a volunteer‑led community project offering practical support, warm hospitality and compassionate outreach. A dedicated team – Jeff, Linda, Kay, Dana, Diana, Pauline, Elizabeth, Jean, Mosain, Steve, Margaret and Christine – works each week to prepare and serve a hot meal, dessert and a friendly welcome to anyone in the community who needs support or simply appreciates the chance to spend time with others in a safe and friendly environment.
Alongside the meal, each gathering includes a short Bible reading, reflection and prayers led by Steve. These elements are received with respect and attentiveness, reflecting the supportive and inclusive atmosphere that has grown around the project.
King’s Kitchen also provides donated clothing, including belts, trainers, socks and underwear, as well as warm coats and other winter items when available. Socks, in particular, are in very short supply and always in high demand.
King’s Kitchen offers more than food and clothing. It is also a place where volunteers can share their faith and express the love of Jesus through service, compassion and community. The team work together to create an environment where people feel valued and supported. Their hope is that individuals not only receive practical help but also experience something of God’s presence and care in their lives.
The project is supported by funding from a number of sources, and there is an ongoing commitment to helping identify additional funding opportunities to ensure the work continues. The visit highlighted the importance of this support and the significant impact the project has within the community.
King’s Kitchen meets every Monday at 1:00pm in the Christ Church Parish Centre, excluding Bank Holidays.
