Our Bishops
The Diocese of Manchester is led by a team of three bishops who work together to serve the Church and communities across Greater Manchester and Rossendale. Each bishop brings a unique perspective to their ministry, helping to guide the diocese in faith, mission, and service.
- The Right Reverend Dr David Walker, Bishop of Manchester, is the diocesan bishop. He provides overall spiritual and strategic leadership, championing social justice, interfaith dialogue, and the Church’s role in public life.
- The Right Reverend Dr Matthew Porter, Bishop of Bolton, supports parishes primarily in the Bolton and Salford archdeaconries. He is committed to encouraging church growth, church planting, discipleship, and community outreach.
- The Right Reverend Mark Davies, Bishop of Middleton, ministers across the Rochdale and Oldham archdeaconries. With a heart for pastoral care and prayer, he works closely with clergy and congregations to strengthen local ministry and witness. Bishop Mark also serves as Chair of the Diocesan Board of Education, where he leads our work in supporting Church of England schools and promoting Christian values in education.
Our bishops are dedicated to achieving our vision of being a worshipping, growing and transforming Christian presence in the heart of every community.
