The Revd Cait Walker, the newly appointed Incumbent of Moorside and Heyside, is settling well into her new role and already becoming a visible and thoughtful presence in the wider Oldham community.

Cait was licensed by Bishop Mark Davies on Monday, 1st September 2025, at St Thomas’, Moorside, in a joyful service attended by parishioners, colleagues, and friends from across the deanery.

More recently, Revd Cait was invited to speak on the theme of Light from Christian Scriptures at the Oldham Festival of Light, organised by the Oldham Interfaith Forum and held at Queen Elizabeth Hall. The Festival brought together people of many faiths and backgrounds to celebrate Chanukah, Christmas, Deepawali, and Mawlid Al Nabi in a spirit of friendship, mutual respect, and shared hope.

The evening was attended by the Leader of Oldham Council, Cllr Arooj Shah, alongside Deputy Mayor Cllr Hobin, Cllr Zahid Chauhan, and Cllr Umar Nasheen, as well as faith and ecumenical leaders and local residents. Clergy present included Fr Philip Sumner and The Revd Canon Daniel Burton, Borough Dean of Oldham and Rector of Oldham Parish Church.

The Festival of Light was a warm and joyful expression of Oldham’s diverse community life, with people sitting side by side, sharing stories and reflections, and celebrating the values that unite them. Revd Cait’s contribution reflected her commitment to building strong relationships across faiths and cultures as part of her ministry among the people of Moorside and Heyside in the Oldham and Ashton Deanery.
