Chorister Chaperones: Manchester Cathedral

Manchester Cathedral is seeking to appoint two Chorister Chaperones who are to be the principal carers for the Cathedral Choristers when at the Cathedral.

Manchester Cathedral is seeking to appoint two Chorister Chaperones who are to be the principal carers for the Cathedral Choristers when at the Cathedral. The safety, welfare and happiness of our young people is of paramount importance to the Manchester Cathedral Chapter. Therefore, these important roles require individuals with experience in caring for children, who enjoy their company and talking with them and can easily interact on their level. The Chorister Chaperones need to be calm with children and understand how to support children’s wellbeing, offering regular encouragement or guidance when needed.

The ability to communicate well and work flexibly alongside a variety of people is key, as is building professional relationships with the parents and carers of the choristers. The Chorister Chaperones will liaise with the Director of Music in all day-to-day matters regarding the choristers as well as providing safeguarding and pastoral care to the choristers.

As the roles involve attending the services at which the choristers sing, it may particularly suit a choral music enthusiast, as the Chorister Chaperones sit in the Quire near the choristers.

These roles are separated into two working patterns, but could also be combined to create one post.
