Brunswick Church Moves Towards Net Zero
Brunswick Church is set to become one of our first demonstrator churches, a small group of parishes leading the way in practical action towards net zero carbon.
Brunswick Church is set to become one of our first demonstrator churches, a small group of parishes leading the way in practical action towards net zero carbon. The church hopes to stop using fossil fuels in its main worship space by turning off the gas heating and improving insulation in the walls, windows, and roof. They are also exploring innovative low‑carbon heating solutions and plan to create a smaller, warm area within the worship room for community use without heating the entire space.
This work is deeply connected to Christian mission. Climate change is already causing significant harm globally, and reducing carbon emissions has become an essential expression of creation care. When we look at lowering our carbon footprint, we’re looking at how we can positively impact the planet and better live out our call to care for God’s creation.
Our demonstrator churches will already be engaged in environmental action and ready to undertake strategic, carbon‑cutting projects. Whether they are modern buildings or historic Victorian or medieval structures, they will serve as examples that others across the diocese can learn from. Their experiences, challenges, and successes will be used to encourage parishes of all types to take practical steps toward sustainability. Those interested in exploring this journey are encouraged to contact the Parish Support Team for guidance.
