With great sadness, we share the news that Canon David Stanley Chadwick Wyatt MBE, died earlier this week, aged 90.
Ordained in 1961, Canon Wyatt began his ministry in Rochdale before serving as Bishop’s Chaplain and Diocesan Director of Ordinands. He went on to serve as Rector of St Paul with Christ Church, Salford, for over 50 years.
Canon Wyatt was appointed an Honorary Canon of Manchester Cathedral in 1982, served as Area Dean of Salford, and also ministered as Priest-in-Charge of St Clement’s, Ordsall, and the Ascension, Lower Broughton. In 2022, Canon Wyatt and his late wife, Helen, were awarded MBEs for their services to homeless people and to the wider community in Salford, recognising a lifetime of dedicated service to others.
Paying tribute, Bishop David said:
“Canon Wyatt served God and his Church in Salford for 55 years with extraordinary faithfulness. He was a deeply trusted figure in the community, caring for those in need, helping to bring peace and reconciliation where relationships had broken down, and offering a visible embodiment of the love of Jesus Christ amongst his people. David and his late wife Helen devoted their lives to serving others, and the MBEs they received were a fitting recognition of that lifelong commitment. He will be remembered with great affection and gratitude by all whose lives he touched.”
We give thanks for Canon Wyatt’s life and ministry and pray that he may rest in peace and rise in glory.
