Manchester Cathedral Hosts Ordinations
It was a joyful occasion at Manchester Cathedral yesterday as the diocese gathered to celebrate the ordinations of the Revd Abby Latham-Holt and the Revd Vicky Louise McQuarrie.
It was a joyful occasion at Manchester Cathedral yesterday as the diocese gathered to celebrate the ordinations of the Revd Abby Latham-Holt and the Revd Vicky Louise McQuarrie.
Held on the Feast of St Oswald, the service marked an important milestone in the ministry of both ordinands. While originally planned to take place during this year’s Petertide ordinations, the additional service provided an opportunity for family, friends and supporters from across the diocese to come together in prayer and celebration.
During the service, Bishop David Walker ordained Vicky as Deacon and Abby as Priest. Bishop Mark Davies presided at the service, while the sermon was preached by the Revd Canon Chris Bracegirdle.
In a fitting start to his new ministry, the Ven Simon Cook presented the candidates for ordination just hours after being licensed as Archdeacon of Salford and Bolton. The Revd Elizabeth Roney served as Deacon and the Revd Kausar George as Subdeacon.
Vicky, who trained at Emmanuel Theological College, begins her ministry at All Saints, Salford, where she will serve alongside the Revd Peter Bennett. Abby, also a student at Emmanuel, was ordained Priest to serve in the benefice of Bury, Roch Valley. She is currently serving a placement in the benefice of Ramsbottom and Edenfield with the Revd Ian Fleming.
Bishop David encouraged churches and communities across the diocese to continue to hold Abby and Vicky in their prayers as they begin this new chapter of ministry and service.
