Resources for Windrush Day 2026

As we pause to mark Windrush Day, we take a moment to remember, honour and listen, reflecting on the enduring legacy of the Windrush generation.

As we prepare to mark Windrush Day on 22nd June, we take a moment to remember, honour and listen, reflecting on the enduring legacy of the Windrush generation.

The arrival of the Empire Windrush in 1948 carried more than just passengers; it carried courage, skill, stories, faith and hope for a shared future. Men, women and children travelled from Caribbean countries to the United Kingdom, arriving at Tilbury Docks, answering the call to help rebuild the country after the Second World War. Many faced racism, exclusion and injustice.

What journeys were made? What was gained? What was carried at great cost? What would it look like for our worship, leadership and community life to reflect the richness of all God’s people?

The Windrush generation made a profound and lasting contribution to British society. May this day invite us not only to remember, but also to renew our commitment to being a church that honours every person.

Today we remain open to learning more from one another, through lived experiences and conversations that deepen understanding.

As we reflect on Windrush, some questions to consider are:

What journeys were made? What was gained? What was carried at great cost? What would it look like for our worship, leadership and community life to reflect the richness of all God’s people?

The Racial Justice Team has created the resources below to help you include and celebrate Windrush Day in your church services.
