It is with sadness that we share the news of the death of Iain Hodcroft, Deanery Secretary for the Salford and Leigh Deanery, earlier this month.
Iain served the deanery and the wider diocese with unwavering dedication over many years. His contributions included service on both the Deanery and Diocesan Synods, as well as on the Bishop’s Council and the Board of Education.
Locally, Iain was a committed churchwarden at St George’s, Tyldesley, and a school governor at the local primary school. He gave generously of his time and energy to local community and social initiatives, and will be fondly remembered by those who knew him.
Reflecting on Iain’s legacy, The Revd Richard Worsfold, Area Dean of Salford & Leigh, and James Cowley, Lay Chair of Salford & Leigh, shared:
“Iain’s vision and steady drive shaped so much of what he undertook. His historical knowledge of our area was vast – the kind of wisdom a community leans on. His faith, and his passion for social justice, animated his service and made a real difference.
“Please keep the Astley, Tyldesley and Mosley Common Team in your prayers, and especially Iain’s family, at this very difficult time. He was a good and faithful servant, true to his gospel calling in Christ.”
May he rest in peace and rise in glory.
There will be an opportunity to give thanks for Iain’s life at his funeral service on Tuesday, 11th November at 1:15pm, which will take place at St George’s Church, Elliott Street, Tyldesley, M29 8JE. There is some car parking in the surrounding streets, but it may help if anyone attending is able to car share or use public transport.
