Opening Address

In his presidential address, Bishop David emphasised the importance of long-term planning, highlighting our sustained commitment to both ordained and lay leadership that reflects the growing diversity in our region. He also commended the work taking place across our diocese in local parishes including in children and youth ministry and safeguarding. He urged the Church to continue to serve the wider community with courage in the face of increasing division and to remain committed to promoting good in the church and society. MDBF Accounts

The Manchester Diocesan Board of Finance met for its Annual General Meeting (AGM) to review the MDBF consolidated financial statements for the year ending 31st December 2025. The report showed a budgeted deficit of £1.826m, with an actual net operating expenditure of £1.884m, reflecting lower income than budget which includes lower than expected parish share but offset with savings in expenditure. The accounts were then formally adopted.  Members also approved the appointment of auditors, noted arrangements for any other business, and confirmed the next meeting for 19 June 2027. Diocesan Synod then adopted the accounts in line with the usual processes.

Additional Honorary Assistant Bishops

To support the diocese during the Vacancy in See process, Synod approved the appointment of three additional honorary assistant bishops – The Rt Revd Jonathan Ruhumuliza, The Rt Revd Geoff Pearson, and The Rt Revd Tony Porter – who will join existing retired bishops in assisting with episcopal duties such as confirmations and licensing services when required.

Date of Next Meeting

The next Diocesan Synod is due to take place on Saturday, 17th October 2026.
