FAITH & CALLING
Lay Ministries
Lay ministry is at the heart of church life – where everyday faith meets active service. Across our parishes, lay people are stepping into roles that nurture their community, support worship, and help others grow in their faith. Whether you’re already involved or just beginning to explore your calling, there are pathways to help you discern, develop, and deepen your ministry.
If you’re sensing a call to ministry or simply want to grow in your current role, our training programmes offer a welcoming space to reflect, learn, and prepare.
Authorised Lay Ministry (ALM) Courses
Authorised Lay Ministers are lay people who have been identified by their parish as having a particular gifting or calling to serve in a leadership role. ALMs work collaboratively with clergy and ministry teams, focusing on growing, nurturing, and serving the wider parish community
Foundations for Ministry
Foundations for Ministry is a vibrant and accessible course designed for anyone active in church life who wants to explore their vocation more deeply. Whether you’re discerning a specific path or seeking to strengthen your faith and service, this course provides the tools and community to help you take the next step.
Reader Ministry
Readers are trained and licensed by the bishop to preach, teach, and lead worship. They serve in a wide variety of contexts – from parishes to prisons, schools to hospitals – and act as a bridge between everyday life and the church.
General Lay Training Pathway
General Lay Training Pathway opens access to a wide range of courses, empowering all lay people—not just those seeking formal authorisation.
Focal Leaders
In every church, there’s often someone who quietly holds things together. This grounded, faithful presence is what we call a Focal Leader. Though not a formal title, this role is vital to the life and growth of the church.
