To support the growth of our churches across Greater Manchester, the Diocese is committed to encouraging innovative and creative approaches to church planting, particularly through Fresh Expressions of church.
A Fresh Expressions church is a new Christian community that differs in style and ethos from the church that planted it. These churches are intentionally designed to connect with people who may not engage with traditional church settings.
There’s no one-size-fits-all model. Instead, Fresh Expressions churches take many forms, each shaped by its unique context and the community it seeks to serve. The goal is not to replicate what works elsewhere, but to plant something authentic and relevant. Importantly, Fresh Expressions complement the parish church and work alongside it, not in competition with it.
In Greater Manchester, we have a number of inspiring examples like Sanctus1 and Sports Village Church, both created to reach new and diverse communities.
