Eco Church

The fifth Mark of Mission is "to strive to safeguard the integrity of creation and sustain and renew the life of the earth".

Many church communities are imaginatively living out the fifth Mark of Mission through care for Gods creation. 

Can you join us in the journey to become an Eco Church? 

 

This involves making changes to your lifestyle and taking small steps in the right direction. It might include signing up with a green energy supplier, reducing your purchase of single use plastic items, and remembering to put our rubbish in the correct recycling bins.

Eco Church (run by A Rocha UK) encourages and supports churches in their care for Gods creation across five areas of church life:

Eco Church Awards operate through an online survey asking churches how they care for Gods earth in different areas of their life and work. By answering questions, you collect points towards a bronze, silver or gold Eco Church Award.

We currently have 100 churches registered to become Eco Churches and we need more to join us as we work towards our Silver Eco Diocese award.

HOW DO WE GET STARTED?

  1. Register your church at https://ecochurch.arocha.org.uk

  2. Build a team of people to help you answer the questions, including children, young people, and people beyond your regular congregation. Can you work together with local schools and community groups?

  3. See how many Eco Church points you achieve by completing the questionnaire.

  4. The survey will suggest ideas for further action, many of them easily achievable and affordable.Be sure to update the survey with any changes you implement and notice what happens to your points.

  5. Check out the suggested online resources and develop your ideas further. They include prayers, activities for young people, information on green energy, insulation and developing wildlife friendly church grounds.

  6. When you have enough points, complete the Award Application Form.
