    The Bishop of Manchester is to take his seat as a member of the House of Lords in Parliament on Monday 7 September. As one of the 26 Lords Spiritual, he will represent the city and diocese of Manchester. He will have a particular brief among the bishops to speak on issues of housing and international trade.

  • Action for Creationtide: Energy Footprint Tool

    New data reveals that more than 3,000 churches are using the new Church of England Energy Footprint Tool to understand their carbon footprint and reduce their energy use and costs. The tool also helps the national church to measure progress towards the Church of England goal of “net carbon zero” by 2030.

    Churches are asked as part of their annual statistics return to include information from their energy bills and some basic dimensions for their church buildings. The Energy Footprint Tool provides a calculation and issues a rating in the form of an energy chart, similar to those found on household appliances. In time, parishes will be able to login to an online dashboard to track their carbon footprint year on year.

    The Season of Creation is a time to renew our relationship with our Creator and all creation through repenting, repairing, and rejoicing together. During the Season of Creation, we join our sisters and brothers in the ecumenical family in prayer and action for our common home.

    The Season of Creation starts on 1 September, the Day of Prayer for Creation, and ends on 4 October, the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of ecology beloved by many Christian denominations.
