Bishop David speaks up for victims in the House of Lords

First published on: 25th January 2024

Bishop David spoke in the House of Lords yesterday as the House considered the Victims and Prisoners Bill.

Firstly, Bishop David addressed the need for a definition of child victims of criminal exploitation in the Bill. This would ensure that children coerced into wrongdoing are treated appropriately. He raised concerns about the adultification of children and the recent treatment of victims of grooming gangs.

Next, Bishop David spoke in favour of an amendment to the Bill that would strengthen the requirement for signposting of support services for victims.

Drawing on the story of David versus Goliath, Bishop David spoke in the Lords Grand Committee about the need to ensure that the Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Bill is fair and proportionate in its treatment of smaller media platforms.
