We’re grateful to share an update from Archdeacon Rachel, who continues to face her health journey with courage, faith, and grace.
This past weekend marked a significant occasion in the life of our diocese, as 15 people were ordained as priests at Manchester Cathedral during our annual Petertide Ordinations.
This past weekend marked a significant occasion in the life of our diocese, as 21 people were ordained as deacons at Manchester Cathedral during our annual Petertide Ordinations.
This week, members of clergy and the Shades team joined colleagues from across the country for the Truth-Telling Gathering at the University of Liverpool - a city with a deep and complex history tied to the transatlantic slave trade. This significant location set the tone for a powerful and moving experience of reflection, truth, and learning.
Last week, Manchester Cathedral came alive with the joyful sounds of singing, dancing, and worship as hundreds of children gathered for their Year 6 Leavers’ Services - a cherished annual tradition in our diocese.
On Tuesday evening, the Revd Andy Bird was officially licensed as Assistant Curate at William Temple Church in Wythenshawe. Andy will lead a team sent from St Werburgh’s and will work alongside the Wythenshawe Team with a shared goal: to revitalise William Temple Church and contribute to a thriving mission and ministry in the area.
Archdeacons’ Visitation Services are currently taking place across our diocese – an annual event that offers an opportunity to give thanks for the faithful ministry of our churchwardens and church officers.
Last Friday, churches from across Saddleworth came together in a display of faith and community spirit for the annual Whit Friday Walk of Witness. The day’s celebrations culminated in the world-renowned Saddleworth and Oldham Whit Friday Band Contests, drawing crowds and competitors from near and far.
Yesterday, The Rt Revd Dr David Walker, Bishop of Manchester, and The Rt Revd Dr Helen-Ann Hartley, Bishop of Newcastle, responded to the Chancellor's statement on the Comprehensive Spending Review.
On Saturday, 7th June, Diocesan Synod met at St John's House to discuss the diocese’s strategy, vocations, safeguarding, and to adopt the annual report and accounts for 2024.
