CSA funding for new kitchen at St Peter’s

First published on: 16th August 2023

St Peter’s Church, Westleigh, has been fitted with a brand-new kitchen for parishioners to enjoy thanks, in part, to Council for Social Aid (CSA) funding.

A project that was years in the making, St Peter’s had needed a new kitchen for a long time. Originally, four pews were removed from the northwest corner of the nave to make room for it, with a temporary station comprised of a trestle table, water boiler, and small fridge used for years in the interim. This temporary setup wasn’t ideal. It was 35 metres away from a water supply and wastewater disposal, making topping up water for teas and coffees, along with washing up, a challenge.

St Peter’s applied for grants to raise funds towards the new kitchen, and one such successful application was to the Council for Social Aid (CSA). The CSA approved an application for a Statement of Need Report, which was essential in the process of attaining further funding.

Margaret Molyneux of St Peter’s said “The Council for Social Aid grant provided the funds for a comprehensive Community Profile to be professionally undertaken, along with mentoring during the grant funding journey. These 2 aspects proved vital in the successful funding outcome for our Church Kitchen Project."

Work began in the summer of this year and involved the installation of new drainpipes, new flooring, and a state-of-the-art kitchen. The works were completed in early August, and St Peter’s now has a beautiful new kitchen which will be enjoyed and used by many in the years to come!
